American Airlines flight AA5342 from Wichita, Kansas to Washington D.C.‘s Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) and operated by a PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700, has crashed into the Potomac River on approach to DCA after colliding with a Black Hawk helicopter at low altitude.
None of the 64 people on board the commercial flight have survived the crash, and neither have the three crew members of the helicopter.
After witnessing the collision, ATC immediately instructed other flights on approach to go around and closed the airport to allow for search and rescue operations.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
