Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321neo airplane.
The first aircraft is registered as PR-YJA and was delivered to the carrier on Monday from Hamburg Finkenwerder Airport. Even though Azul’s A321neo planes are based on the Airbus Cabin Flex (ACF) system, which allows for a denser cabin configuration for up to 240 passengers (instead of 220), the airline configures its A321neo with only 214 seats in total.
An order for 35 A320neo aircraft was initially announced by Azul in 2014. A further 28 leased planes of this type were ordered with lessors AerCap and GECAS. Ten A320neo were later converted to the longer A321neo.
Azul’s current short- and medium-haul fleet consists of Airbus A320neo family aircraft, as well as ATR 72-600s and Embraer E-Jets. The airline has recently received its first Embraer E2 jet as the global launch customer of the E195-E2 version. Furthermore, Airbus A330-200 and A330-900neo airplanes are deployed on long-haul routes. Azul Express Cargo operates a few freighter aircraft, including leased Boeing 737-400F aircraft.
Along with a total of ten A321neo orders, the 2008-founded carrier als has further A320neo, A330neo and Embraer E195-E2 aircraft on order. Deliveries of Azul’s A320neo family planes are expected to run until 2023.
