Ethiopian Airlines, the flag carrier of Ethiopia, has announced the resumption of flights between Addis Ababa and Mogadishu, Somalia, starting on November 2. The route will be operated three times a week by Ethiopian’s Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft.
In the 1970s, the airline stopped its service to Mogadishu due to a conflict between Ethiopia and Somalia.
According to the airline, the connection will quickly grow and soon be operated on a daily basis.
Ethiopian Airlines was founded in 1945 and is fully owned by the government of Ethiopia. Since 2011, the airline is a member of the Star Alliance. It was world wide one of the first operators of the next-generation long haul airplanes Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A350XWB. Ethiopian’s wide body fleet also includes Boeing 767 and 777. The short haul fleet consists of Boeing 737NG and smaller Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft. Furthermore, Ethiopian Airlines took delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX 8 in July.
