Dutch flag-carrier KLM has announced a new service from Amsterdam to Austin, Texas, that will be added to its route network in the summer season next year.
After adding Boston and Las Vegas earlier this year, Austin is KLM’s 19th connection to North America. KLM will serve its newest destination three times a week. The route will launch on May 4th, 2020, with flights being operated by Airbus A330-300 aircraft, which are equipped with 292 total seats, including 30 in business class.
According Pieter Elbers, CEO of KLM, the expansion was only possible “thanks to our joint ventures with Air France and Delta Air Lines.” He also stated that the airline “will continue to optimize this network”. How KLM will restructure its long haul route network to organize slots for its new flights has yet to be announced.
Besides the Airbus A330-300s, KLM’s current long-haul fleet consists of Boeing 747-400, 777 and 787 aircraft. It has recently taken delivery of its first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner. Boeing 737 and Embraer E-jets are used on shorter routes.
