Singapore Airlines has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) for seven new Airbus A350F freighter aircraft with an option for further five jets. Starting in 2025, Singapore Airlines plans to replace their current Boeing 747-400F with the A350F. The agreement is a conversion of previous orders for 15 A320neo and two A350-900 passenger aircraft.
“The A350F is the world’s all-new large freighter and will be unmatched in its market segment in terms of operational efficiency, lower fuel consumption and CO₂ savings“, said Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer.
The newly launched freighter can hold up to 109 tons of cargo and is designed to transport standard pallets and containers. The type is equipped with the latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent XWB97 engines, improving the fuel efficiency and lowering emissions compared to previous generation freighter aircraft that the A350F looks to replace.
Singapore Airlines actively operates a fleet of 110 aircraft, including the largest Airbus A350 fleet of 56 aircraft. Its cargo branch exclusively uses Boeing 747-400F. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Singapore Airlines was forced to temporarily store many of its passenger aircraft at home base Changi Airport.
