Spanish low-cost carrier Volotea has signed leasing agreements for six additional Airbus A319 aircraft, which are expected to join Volotea’s fleet within the first half of this year.

With the addition of the Airbus jets, Volotea will operate a total of 36 aircraft during the summer season in 2019.

The Spanish low-cost carrier aims to operate an all-Airbus fleet by 2022. At the moment, Volotea’s mixed fleet consists of Airbus A319 and Boeing 717 aircraft. The airline is the only European operator of the aging Boeing 717 jet.

Volotea serves mid- and small-sized European cities in 13 countries, including destinations in France, Italy, Spain, Germany and Greece. The airline operates from twelve bases that are located in different European countries, mostly Spain, France and Italy. In addition to the current bases, a new base in Cagliari, Italy will be inaugurated in 2019.
