Hannover Airport temporarily stopped operations on Saturday due to a ‘security incident’.

The local police department said on Twitter that a man broke through a security gate in a vehicle and entered the apron of the German airport. Federal police officers were able to stop and detain the driver. The vehicle was inspected but no dangerous items were found.

Several flights diverted to nearby airports. Arrivals and departures were suspended for more than four hours. Flight operations resumed at around 20:00 local time.

The German airport serves as a base for several airlines such as Eurowings or Condor. Furthermore, TUI fly Germany is headquartered at Hannover Airport.
