Taiwanese start-up airline Starlux Airlines will lease eight new Airbus A330-900neo aircraft. This was confirmed by Airbus on Saturday. All eight A330neo will be leased from US-based Air Lease Corporation (ALC).

The first of the new airplanes will be delivered to the carrier as early as the fourth quarter of 2021, according to Taiwanese news site Apple Daily. It also reports that Starlux will delay the delivery of its first Airbus A350 to 2022 while at the same time adding an additional A350-900 to the order book. The airline had originally firmed up an order for 17 Airbus A350, including both variants, in March 2019.

In January this year, Starlux Airlines began commercial operations as the newest Taiwanese passenger airline. With orders for factory-new Airbus A321neo, A350 and now A330neo, it is attempting to break the duopoly of EVA Air and China Airlines.
