Low-cost carrier AirAsia X and aircraft manufacturer Airbus signed a firm order for 30 Airbus A321XLR and twelve A330-900neo aircraft.
With the additional A330neo jets, the largest A330neo customer has a total of 78 A330neos on order. Furthermore, the AirAsia Group has outstanding orders for A320neo and A321neo jets.
According to news agency Reuters, the new A330neo order was already listed as a firm order for 34 additional A330neo aircraft (on top of the existing order for 66 A330neos) in Airbus’ order book since the announcement during the Farnborough Airshow 2018. However, the carrier has now firmed up an order for only twelve A330neo aircraft.
In August, AirAsia’s affiliate Thai AirAsia X received its first of two A330neo aircraft. Both A330neo jets are leased from aircraft leasing company Avolon and were previously scheduled to be delivered to low-cost carrier WOW Air, which ceased operations in March 2019.
